Resolution Summary
An ambitious five-point plan for economic recovery in Europe was presented to a summit of social democratic prime ministers and party leaders in Brussels tonight. The plan is part of a jobs and growth strategy drawn up by a network of experts for the Party of European Socialists. Former Danish Premier Poul Nyrup Rasmussen, who chairs the Global Progressive Forum, set out the network's recommendations in a paper entitled Momentum for Recovery in Europe: Promoting Public and Private Investments. The full text of the document is on this PES website, in Key Documents below. Said Mr Rasmussen: The action we seek will create five million jobs and increase growth by almost one per cent a year from 2005 to 2007 with an extra 0.5 percent a year up to 2010. The PES Network's five-point plan, a contribution to the European Growth Initiative, sets out new ambitions for funding and financial support to secure growth. But it also criticises the European Central Bank and investment failures of national governments.
